Yeah for having to search for the correct French spelling but anyway, on to the subject matter.  Brace yourselves.  I am now a Shenny fan.  For those of you unfamiliar with the term it refers to Sheldon and Penny from The Big Bang Theory.  To make a long story short my significant other intorduced me to the show and since I really liked the interactions between Sheldon and Penny (Sheldon is my favourite character) I decided to look up shipping information.  Oh the wonders of the interweb.  Now I'm hooked.  This ship is kind of like my Hermione/Snape preference in that it'll likely never happen and it wouldn't really work in canon.  It's one of those things that works best in the hands of the shippers.  The two of them getting together in the show would taint some of the comic mood that I love so much but give me a good fanfic and I'll happily read it.  It may be hard for people to understand why I feel this way but I do.  I admire a show that goes against the grain and doesn't follow expectations.  The fact that Sheldon is so 'beyond'  relationships is part of what makes him so great (whether or not that claim is true).

So, now that I've got that out of my system I'll let you go back to your lives in peace.

May the Umpa Lumpas be with you!

Space Cases, May the Fandom Live On!

Mar. 28th, 2011 | 08:49 pm
mood: chipperchipper
music: Space Cases closing theme

Oh dear (the only one other person who watches this journal cries!) not another fandom!

Actually, I guess the other person who watches this might not mind this as much as Snape and Hermione.  Welcome one and all to the amazing retro-obsession of an-almost-graduate-University student!  Introducing Space Cases!  I loved this show growing up and have recently begun re-watching the series which I still enjoy a lot despite the occasional moral.  I highly recommend giving it a try since it's light-hearted and generally entertaining.  It had a low budget so you can even poke fun at the props and CGI if you'd like.

My goals for this evening before I decide I really need to go to bed are as follows:
1) Take a Space Cases character test
2) Read a good piece of fanficiton
3) Download at least one more episode from Youtube
4) Try to latch on to an idea for writing about on the Livejournal kink or community at large.

I'm sort of already writing a fanfiction but I'm not terribly certain of a lot of the details yet.  Basic plot will include them finding an outpost with earth ship still attached in which the crew has all been frozen by the atmospheric controls.  They take the Captain back to the Christa to see if they can revive her but during the gradual revival/healing process Thelma's personality gets projected into the Captain's body.  Her android body continues to function but no longer has her wonderfully characteristic personality.  While trying to get Thelma back into her android body (since her bond with the Christa is a powerful one and its lack is causing her to be very depressed) she and Radu strike up a close friendship.  Yes yes I know, another strange pairing, but life is about adventure and challenge!  I might post it to the community when it's done.  Catalina and Harlan are a great couple!  I'm a romantic at heart, what can I say?

Signing off.  Remember what you do know... how to dance! ^-^

Ok so it's not quite that bad yet but I've been submerged in secondary resource material for the past three hours so I thought it was time to come up for air.  I've been thinking of starting a website to publisize my authorship.  It's the way to go with the internet.  Publishing houses have always been challenging for a new author so why not take marketing into your own hands?  I'd have a bit to learn first but I'm sure I could do it.  When school's done (which is my response to most things right about now).  Youtube videos are what I do to relax my exhausted gray matter these days.  I've also been playing an online game called Fiesta but am in one of my 'slow' phases with that at the moment, largely because my laptop doesn't agree with the required graphics.

March has a pretty exciting line-up actually.  Tales from Earthsea is out now, along with Pokemon Black and White and Bambi should also be available in the near future.  I'm waiting more for Lady and the Tramp but Bambi is also very good.  Disney was best when they aimed their movies at adults, or at least assumed their audience wasn't completely mindless.  It's not that bad all the time but I find myself appreciating things away from Amercian borders more and more these days.  Anime North 2011 is coming up in May which I hope to be attending!  It's very exciting to get away from conventional life for a while and watch all the crazy otaku fans!  And if you have money the merchandise is pretty awesome too.  I'm a Pokemon card collector (only the original ones/ ones I like however).  It's a rather pricey hobby unless you can buy them individually for decent prices but I enjoy it.  A splurge here and there makes life fun.

I can't wait for The Borrow

Strange Interests-HG&SS

Now don't sign me into the mental clinic yet, let me state my case.

I discovered this pairing by accident several years ago when I was perusing Harry Potter fanfiction and was vaguely intrigued but then abandoned it for other interests.  Recently I discovered some very impressive music videos, stories and art containing this pairing which has re-peaked my interest.  I was trying to figure out why I like this couple since, yes, the age difference does make most people uncomfortable and in a lot of ways it's a bit of a stretch to conjure a situation where they would accept let alone date one another.  One of the primary reasons I like this couple is that I'm honestly not fond of any of the canon couples.  Ron and Hermione are alright but I think they make much better friends/sex buddies than long-term partners.  I view Harry and Hermione in the light of a sibling relationship (which is better for them both in the long run since it means less complication and more love).  While we're on Harry, I have nothing against Ginny, I like her, but it feels like she and Harry were thrown together because Harry needed a love interest besides Cho and it helped satisfy Ginny's earlier crush on him.  Additionally, as Lilbun pointed out, their relationship is seeped in Freudian psychology since Ginny is in many respects Harry's attempt at filling the mother-void (she bears an uncanny resemblance to his perception of his mother both physically and mentally).

So after that brief tangent; I've always felt that Severus and Hermione got the short end of the stick.  Yes they both attain hero status and ultimately enable Harry to bring down Voldemort but their sacrifices are often taken for granted, Snape because he's difficult to get along with and Hermione because she's so nice and in control that people just assume she'll do everything.  Plus, both undergo horrendous torture and circumstances in the name of the greater good.  Harry's suffered a lot, I don't deny that, but in a lot of ways the fact that Severus and Hermione keep all the emotional torment from their experiences inside in many ways makes their suffering that much worse.  That's a big reason why I like the two of them together.  I feel they'd have a chance at understanding each other and maybe filling some of the hellish void forged by their negative experiences.  They're both extremely intelligent and talented magic-users with enormous wells of loyalty.  Yes Hermione is more openly affectionate than Snape ever showed himself to be but the fact that he had such strong feelings for Lily all those years illustrates his capacity to love.  And goodness knows the two of them are strong-willed when they want to be!

In conclusion, not that I have to prove to anyone why I like something but I feel that these two do have a certain thread of affinity to one another, even if it only leads to a tentative friendship.  I prefer an exploration of the characters of the two of them together rather than tons of explicit sex as well which is the tendency with an older man and a younger woman.  On top of all this I was very disappointed when Snape died, it wasn't a surprise really but I felt cheated in that he never had a chance to be completely recognized as a good-guy in his lifetime.  So I have no problem with the fact that people frequently ignore this cannon detail in fanfiction.  Please keep on writing all!  Let's give Snape and Hermione the recognition they deserve!

Anyway, that's my ramble for today.  Adios amigos!

First day
In a victims chair
Every surface replaced
Can help to keep you fair for a correcting gaze
Every feature displayed
Will match your crowd

A loss of innocence
One hand to wash the other
Be a perfectionist
You're nothing if
You're just another
Something material
This isn't personal

Mirror on the wall
Frame the picture
Reflect this kiss
To wish us all

A Mind Caged in Ideas

Mar. 1st, 2011 | 08:15 pm
location: bed (where I do most of my thinking :P)
mood: thoughtfulthoughtful
music: Bad Romance-Glee

A mind caged in ideas may shower drops to glisten in unbidden places or draw close and mutter to itself in experience.

It is exciting to be graduating this year-I might even get a free breakfast out of it-but also sobering since I'm four years older and am peering into a future promising struggle and challenge.  Nonetheless, there is always the good with the bad and life is worth living for the adventure!  As those I know diverge and travel forth on their own paths I wish them all the best.  I hope that we all know ourselves enough to settle into a place where we're happy while doing some real good in the world.  After all, it's no use living for yourself when there's going to be no world to live in.

That's the hardest lesson to learn really.  No matter how much we think or invent we have to live in harmony with our natural rhythms, those that connect us simultaneously to the earth and to our fellow humans.  If we ignore them then we will be destroyed, either by ourselves or the forces around us which we are carelessly abusing.  I'm an environmentalist, as the term goes, but I'm actually a humanist, not in the sense of the word's definition.  But in the sense that it's us that needs this world the way it is.  The creative ebb and flow of evolution, the determined movement towards life, does not need us.  Life can exist in the most extreme conditions as we are only beginning to discover.
It's us who need this world the way it is.  The trouble is we're changing it faster than we can adapt, same with all other life on the planet.  We are no different than an ant colony or a school of fish.  We just have the ability to do more damage.

On that uplifting note, do the best you can in your life and extend compassion to others.
Remember to be humble.  We're all in this together.

I wanted to get this thing up and running again after a looooooooooooong hiatus.  It still won't be terribly regular but I would like to record some of my more interesting thoughts here to perhaps inspire others.  School's been keeping me very busy the past few years but now that that portion of my life is coming to a culmination I'm looking forward to getting out into the world and doing some real good.  With March around the corner I'll once again be loaded with assignments but I should be able to get in an entry or too.  Until then all, I leave you with a quote that makes me smile:
“Voracious female sexual desire was posited as the most conspicuous sign of gender difference, and was treated both as a disease and as a monstrous abnormality” Callaghan-gotta love that ^-^
Oh, and I love Glee's version of Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance'.  It's been on repeat for the last hour :P

More School Work with Classical!

music: Crazy Violin-Edvin Marton

I'm listening to some very nice classical music by Edvin Marton (whom I discovered when one of his songs was used in a Pokemon music video on Youtube).  So it is accompanying me throughout my reading, typing and other assignments.  The end of September is looming near and with it come tests, presentations and more work.  The summer is drawing its curtains and fall is stepping onto center stage.  I eagerly await the colours of this season when the creatures hurry to and fro, preparing for the coming winter.  While I work at a computer screen and attend lectures the larger world is ticking around me.  I am a tiny part but the ripples I make will affect hundreds of other lives.

May the choices I make and the presence I bring to this world be constructive and healing.

Fanfiction and Originals

music: Angel Eyes-ABBA

So between crazy amounts of class-reading and planning projects I'm attempting to do some writing.  So far I'm working on four fanfictions-Fingersmith, Fruits Basket. random kink memes and a Tarzan/Pocahontas crossover (which now has a video trailor for it at this link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR_b57feDYo.  thanks a million times over to Cati who created it!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the original side of things there's only really one going and it doesn't have a title; it's the one I mentioned in an earlier Journal with the first paragraph about a misquito.  It's developed quite nicely though I still have no idea where it's going.  Until then, that's all folks! ^-^

I'm writing!!!!  My little story about the misquito has expanded into a story (short or long is yet to be determined).  I don't know if I want to keep it a secret or blurt it out.  I'll see how many requests I get :D  Meanwhile I'm reading like a madwoman for my classes (mostly English) and Don Quixote gets better page by page.  I also have to read Frankenstein, some Romantic poems and chapters for my English History class.
Life is slowly beginning to calm down, a little.  Now all I have to do is sprout a social life that works into my schedule ^^!
Until next time!  Cheerio!

School Craziness and Longing

I'm playing Facebook Pokemon quite a lot these days to keep off the growing stress level.  This first week may even rival my first week of 1st year stress wise.  With a lost library book, residency requirements, killer courses, expensive books and incorrect OSAP estimations life is full to the brim of stuff for me to sort out.  Plus I have to begin reading Don Quixote for The Novel class and update my limited grammer for History of the English Language.  This is going to be one crazy year!  On the plus side though I'm living with a wonderful couple and the bus routes are simple enough!  I'm also feeling devilishly creative and have nothing substantial to work on.  I've been doing a little writing here and there but my heart is longing for the excitement of a Novel or Novelette.  Perhaps reading the last book in the Emily of New Moon series had something to do with it since she, being an aspiring author speaks so frequently of the joys and trials of writing.  I hope a brilliant flash of inspiration hits me soon (and allows me to continue with my school work).  I might have something but so far it has no plot, one character and a lengthy description of a misquito.  :P  Cheerio!
